Palworld mobile port has been officially confirmed, as developer Pocketpair has partnered with PUBG creator Krafton Inc. to bring the popular game to mobile devices. The announcement was made on October 2 through Krafton’s Korean website.

Krafton Secures Global License to Make Palworld Mobile Port

According to the translated official blogpost, Krafton plans to “faithfully reinterpret” Palworld’s “main fun elements to fit the mobile environment.” Krafton also confirmed that this mobile port will be handled by the development team of ‘PUBG STUDIOS,’ a creative studio under Krafton.

palworld mobile

PUBG Studios is well-known for developing the acclaimed battle royale title for PC and its successful mobile versions. Both the PC and mobile versions have been hugely popular since their release. With the studio taking on the mobile port of this year’s Pokémon-inspired game, expectations are high for another outstanding adaptation.

Dubbed ‘Pokémon with guns,’ Palworld quickly became a sensation after its January release on PC and Xbox, with millions of copies sold. Recently, Pocketpair has released the game for PlayStation 5, except in Japan.

Despite facing legal challenges from The Pokémon Company and Nintendo over alleged patent infringement, Pocketpair remains committed to the growth and expansion of Palworld. While the lawsuit has delayed the game’s release in Japan, it did not prevent its launch on the PlayStation 5 elsewhere.

In the face of these obstacles, the decision to develop a mobile version of Palworld reflects the developers’ confidence in the game’s appeal and their ambition to reach an even wider audience. Partnering with Krafton, renowned for its hit mobile games like PUBG Mobile, further enhances the potential for a successful mobile port.

Neither Krafton nor PockePair has confirmed a release date for Palworld Mobile. The game is currently available on PC, Xbox and PS5 for Rs 2,415.

Epic Games Sues Google and Samsung Over Auto Blocker, Alleging Antitrust Violations

0
epic games lawsuit

In a major legal move, Epic Games has filed a lawsuit against Google and Samsung, claiming that both companies conspired to use Samsung’s recently introduced Auto Blocker function to restrict competition in the app distribution market on Samsung devices.

Epic Games Sues Google and Samsung over its Auto Blocker Feature

Epic Games, which initially sued Google in 2020 for its alleged monopoly over app distribution on Android, has now turned its attention to Samsung. After winning a December 2023 antitrust case against Google, Epic claims that Samsung’s “Auto Blocker” feature on newer devices unfairly limits users’ ability to install apps from unauthorized sources.

According to the lawsuit, Google’s dealings with Samsung have a history of anticompetitive behaviour. As highlighted in the Epic Games v. Google trial, Google allegedly paid substantial sums to device manufacturers, including Samsung, to limit competition. One significant revelation was “Project Banyan,” an initiative where Google reportedly attempted to eliminate Samsung’s Galaxy Store in exchange for financial benefits.

epic games
Image via Epic Games

In 2020, Google and Samsung entered into a Revenue Sharing Agreement, which Epic claims has hindered Samsung’s efforts to rival the Play Store. Since this agreement, Samsung has not sought exclusive deals with major game developers or offered competitive rates to developers, allowing Google to maintain its market dominance.

In response to these developments, Epic Games is urging the court to swiftly intervene and put an end to Samsung and Google’s anti-competitive practices, specifically calling for the removal of Auto Blocker as the default setting. Epic maintains that the jury’s verdict was unequivocal—Google’s agreements with OEMs, including Samsung, violate antitrust laws.

While the lawsuit against Samsung and Google raises important questions about competition and consumer choice, it is essential to consider the broader context. Auto Blocker, while restrictive, can be seen as a security measure designed to protect users from malicious apps. Samsung has also provided users with the flexibility to enable or disable this feature, making it a matter of personal preference.

The legal battle adds another layer to Epic’s ongoing fight against Google’s alleged monopolistic practices in the tech and mobile app sectors. As the legal battle unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the court will prioritize competition concerns or uphold the security measures Samsung has put in place to safeguard its users.
