Leading Technology giant, Google announced the launch of its new multimodal AI tool, Gemini. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, and Demis Hassabis, CEO and Co-Founder of Google DeepMind call it the most powerful AI model. It is now available globally through Bard, some developer platforms and even the new Google Pixel 8 Pro devices. Gemini is Google’s answer to Open AI’s ChatGPT, which has been great in the GenAI business in recent times.

According to Sundar, Gemini is the most capable and general AI model and Gemini 1.0 is optimized for different sizes: Ultra, Pro and Nano. This latest generation of models of Gemini signifies one of the most extensive scientific and engineering endeavours undertaken by Google as a company. Let us discuss in detail the newly launched Google AI tool, Gemini.

Google’s New AI Model, Gemini Takes on OpenAI’s ChatGPT

Google has introduced Gemini as its most advanced and expansive AI model, embodying the initial vision set forth with the establishment of Google DeepMind earlier this year. As stated earlier,

Gemini 1.0 serves as Google’s response to ChatGPT 4. As stated by Demis Hassabis, CEO and Co-Founder of Google DeepMind, Gemini is crafted with the aim of “grasping the intricacies of the world like human understanding, adept at assimilating various forms of input and producing diverse outputs.”

Gemini 1.0 is crafted in a way so that it can recognise and understand text, images, audio, and even advanced coding languages such as Python, Java, C++, and Go. This multi-faceted approach enhances its capacity to grasp nuanced information and can answer questions relating to complicated topics.

Google also revealed various benchmark tests of its Gemini 1.0 tool, where its Ultra model surpasses GPT4.

Google mentions that Gemini Ultra is designed for highly complex tasks, Pro is tailored for scalability across a wide range of tasks, and Nano is intended for on-device functions.

According to Google, Gemini Ultra demonstrates proficiency in working across languages and processing complex information. It possesses the capability to comprehend, explain, and generate high-quality code in languages like C++, Python, Java, and others. Gemini Ultra is scheduled for release early next year as part of the new Bard Advanced offering. Google is currently conducting additional tests to ensure the safety and security of Gemini Ultra for developers and businesses. Bard Advanced is being positioned as an option providing early access to Google’s most advanced AI models and capabilities.

Speaking of Bard, it now incorporates what Google refers to as a refined version of Gemini Pro. Google claims that Bard should now deliver “more advanced reasoning, planning, understanding, and more.” Users can now test text-based prompts in English in Bard with Gemini Pro, starting today in 170 regions.

Google has introduced the Pixel Feature Drop for December 2023, incorporating the integration of Gemini Nano into the Pixel 8 Pro. According to the blog post, Google highlights the Pixel 8 Pro as the first smartphone designed to support Gemini Nano. Google states that Gemini Nano is driving functionalities such as Summarize in the Recorder app and Smart Reply in Gboard for WhatsApp, with additional messaging apps slated to be included in the coming year.

Google asserted that Gemini would extend its presence to additional products and services, encompassing Search, Ads, Chrome, and Duet AI. According to Google, preliminary experiments with Gemini in the Search domain have already commenced, “where it’s making Search Generative Experience (SGE) faster for users, with a 40% reduction in latency in English in the U.S, alongside improvements in quality”.
