The glitz and glam hit Las Vegas as the 27th Annual DICE Awards unfolded, recognizing the crowning achievements in gaming for 2023. From web-slinging heroes to epic adventures, the ceremony celebrated the titles that pushed boundaries and captured hearts. The event took place at Las Vegas’ Aria Convention Center on February 15.
While recognizing diverse achievements across various categories is commendable, the “Game of the Year” award reigns supreme at the D.I.C.E. Awards (and most award ceremonies in the gaming industry). Baldur’s Gate 3 steals the award alongside Best Role-Playing Game and Outstanding Achievement awards in Story, Game Direction, and Game Design.
2023’s sensational superhero video game Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 may not won the GOTY award but led the ceremony with the most nominations (9) and six wins – Action Game of the Year and Outstanding Achievement awards in Animation, Character, Original Music Composition, Audio Design, and Technical Achievement.
While no other game swept the awards, Alan Wake 2 stood out, capturing the prestigious title of Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction. Other notable wins included The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for Adventure Game of the Year, Super Mario Bros. Wonder for Family Game of the Year, and Street Fighter 6 for Fighting Game of the Year.
