Four Xbox Exclusive Titles are Coming to its Rival Consoles PS5 and Nintendo Switch
The main thing that all the Xbox and other console gamers were looking towards was Xbox launching its exclusives on other platforms. Phil Spencer announced this business event after rumours emerged suggesting Xbox might bring its exclusive titles to platforms like PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
As speculated, Phil Spencer confirmed that four Xbox games will come to PS5 and Nintendo Switch for the first time. However, he did not reveal any names of the titles but mentioned that a couple of them are community-driven, more than one year old, and they do not include Starfield or the upcoming Indiana Jones. Two of the other games are smaller, which Microsoft did not mean to build they are platform-exclusive.
While details remain unconfirmed, some reports, such as one from The Verge, have named Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment as possible candidates for wider availability. The other two titles are reported to be Sea of Thieves and Grounded.
“Over the next five or 10 years, games that are exclusive to one piece of hardware are going to be a smaller and smaller part of the game industry,” Spencer said in a podcast.
While the specific motivations behind this move remain unknown, it aligns with broader initiatives by Microsoft to expand the reach of its gaming ecosystem. This includes attracting new audiences through potentially wider game access and strengthening their cloud gaming offerings.

Diablo IV Coming to Xbox Game Pass

Good news for ARPG fans and Xbox Game Pass subscribers! Blizzard Entertainment’s highly anticipated “Diablo IV” has been confirmed for release on Xbox Game Pass on March 28th. This means subscribers will be able to play the game at launch without additional purchases.
Only Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Game Pass PC members will have access to “Diablo IV” via Game Pass. Subscribers using Xbox Game Pass Core will need to upgrade their membership or purchase the game separately.
This marks the first title confirmed for Game Pass from the recently acquired Activision Blizzard library. Xbox has announced that additional titles from the studios will be made available to Game Pass users in the future.
Xbox also revealed that the Game Pass subscriber base has now surpassed 34 million users.
Sony, a major competitor to Microsoft in the gaming industry, expressed concerns during the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft in 2023. The 2023 Dead Space remake stands as a faithful recreation of the 2008 survival horror classic, seamlessly resurrecting the bone-chilling narrative of the original with a contemporary infusion of graphics and exciting gameplay mechanics. Leading American Multinational tech giant, Microsoft is reportedly downsizing its video game workforce by 1,900 employees, as revealed by sources to IGN. The reduction in workforce amounts to approximately 8 percent of the entire Microsoft Gaming division, which encompasses a total of around 22,000 employees.
It’s been a little over three months since the Activision, Blizzard, and King teams joined Microsoft. As we move forward in 2024, the leadership of Microsoft Gaming and Activision Blizzard is committed to aligning on a strategy and an execution plan with a sustainable cost structure that will support the whole of our growing business. Together, we’ve set priorities, identified areas of overlap, and ensured that we’re all aligned on the best opportunities for growth.
As part of this process, we have made the painful decision to reduce the size of our gaming workforce by approximately 1900 roles out of the 22,000 people on our team. The Gaming Leadership Team and I are committed to navigating this process as thoughtfully as possible. The people who are directly impacted by these reductions have all played an important part in the success of Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax and the Xbox teams, and they should be proud of everything they’ve accomplished here. We are grateful for all of the creativity, passion and dedication they have brought to our games, our players and our colleagues. The staff reductions coincide with Microsoft’s substantial $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the proprietor of Call of Duty, and the departure of its controversial former leader, Bobby Kotick. Notably, Microsoft has now surpassed a valuation of over $3 trillion, making it only the second company in history to achieve this remarkable financial milestone.

In conjunction with the workforce reductions, Blizzard president Mike Ybarra has opted to depart from the company. Microsoft’s game content and studios president, Matt Booty, explained in an internal memo, “As many of you know, Mike previously spent more than 20 years at Microsoft. Now that he has seen the acquisition through as Blizzard’s president, he has decided to leave the company.”
Microsoft is set to announce a new president for Blizzard next week as part of its restructuring plan. Alongside this, Allen Adham, Blizzard’s chief design officer and one of the company’s co-founders, is also departing. Matt Booty, Microsoft’s game content and studios president, acknowledged Allen’s significant impact on Blizzard’s games, stating, “His influence will be felt for years to come, both directly and indirectly as Allen plans to continue mentoring young designers across the industry.”
As a result of these changes, Blizzard’s previously revealed survival game has been canceled. However, Booty assured that Microsoft will be reallocating some of the team members working on the canceled project to contribute to one of several promising new projects currently in the early stages of development at Blizzard.
As you may have read in Phil’s note, today is a challenging day as we say goodbye to some of our colleagues. This is a difficult process, but it is one that will best enable Blizzard and Xbox to deliver ambitious games for our players on more platforms and in more places than ever before. We are moving forward with a more focused strategy across Microsoft Gaming that sets us up for sustainable growth and aligns our talent and resources to our top priorities.
In addition to the events today, Mike Ybarra and I have been discussing his future and some of his personal passions for some time. As many of you know, Mike previously spent more than 20 years at Microsoft. Now that he has seen the acquisition through as Blizzard’s president, he has decided to leave the company. As we move forward, we will continue to build on the positive momentum that Mike created and strive to continue exceeding the expectations of Blizzard’s players. I want to thank Mike for his leadership and for his partnership and counsel since the deal closed. I know he plans to travel and spend more time with his family. We wish him the very best.
Additionally, Allen Adham, Blizzard’s Chief Design Officer, is leaving the company. As one of Blizzard’s cofounders, Allen has had a broad impact on all of Blizzard’s games. His influence will be felt for years to come, both directly and indirectly as Allen plans to continue mentoring young designers across the industry.

Those who are impacted are being informed in meetings starting today. Given the challenging day ahead, anyone who is set up to work from home and would prefer to, can work remotely today. Due to time zones and local holidays, some impacted employees in APAC and EMEA will be informed later this evening and into early next week.
